Goals

New Horizons

For me this journey is a quest for meaning. I think everybody is searching for something. I’ve been lucky enough to realise what that is while I’m still young enough to chase it.

Just the other day I saw an overweight boy training at my gym with a crisp program sheet in his hands. He looked nervous. A gym can be a pretty intimidating environment for anyone let alone a twelve year-old. I remember thinking, ‘I’d hate for his first experience to be a negative one’. I would have hated for him to leave after one session and never come back. For him to be stuck with my old pal Insecurity, for the rest of his life.

So I said hi and gave him some breathing tips. Sometimes a little positive advice can mean the difference between making and breaking; it had for me. He returned again the following week.

I realised I wanted to equip myself with the knowledge and skills to create a lasting change in people’s lives, not just a momentary one.

Gym training has taught me the importance of setting yourself goals and maintaining a positive mindset. Perception is everything. So I’m thinking big and I’m thinking long-term.

Eventually I want to attain a number of qualifications that will allow me to combine the experiences of my trip with recognised scientific disciplines.

I want to become a personal trainer and implement this knowledge in creative and practical ways to help clients achieve total health while continuing to write about my experiences and offer insight and or entertainment to a wider audience.

The areas I want to become proficient in include:

  • Personal Training
  • Life Coaching
  • Nutrition
  • Kettlebells
  • Yoga
  • Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

If I’m successful in these areas I’d love to open my own gym. It would allow me the opportunity to distill everything I have experienced from the gyms of the world into one ultimate environment.
